ITANAGAR: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh on November 19.

As per reports, he will be visiting the state on a one-day schedule. His visit will be mainly for the inauguration of the newly built Donyi Polo airport in Itanagar. He will also start the Kameng Hydro Power Station which will generate a total of 600 MW of hydro electricity.

The newly built airport in Itanagar has been in news for quite some time. The eco-friendly construction and unique bamboo designs have managed to capture the eye of many people worldwide. The name itself has significance to the local culture of the state. Donyi means the Sun and Polo means the Moon in a local language. And it aims to draw attention to the age-old nature-centric people of the state.

A statement issued by the office of the Prime Minister of the country mentioned that this is the first greenfield airport in the state. It is a project that is spread over an area of 690 acres and has incurred a total cost of around Rs 640 Cr. This airport will have a state-of-the-art 2300 m runway, which will have all-weather operating capabilities. The main building has also incorporated modern technology, promoting the use of renewable energy as well as energy efficiency. Proper waste management systems are also in place.

The Donyi Polo Airport will also promote connectivity in the rural regions of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Thus ushering in a new era of tourism as well as trade in the state and the entire region, which will in turn foster the economic growth of the region. Several key leaders including the prime minister and home minister had mentioned many times that the northeastern region of the country needs to work towards economic self-sufficiency.
